CHALLIS, Idaho (KBOI) -- Stephanie Crane of Challis went missing 22 years ago on Oct. 11, 1993, and for Custer County, the search continues.

Sandi Crane, Stephanie's mother, reported Stephanie was last seen at the Challis Lanes Bowling Alley between 5 and 6 p.m. that Monday.

Reports differ when recounting whether Stephanie was heading to her home that was only 500 yards away, or if she was heading to the high school to watch soccer practice.

Stephanie was 4'2" tall, between 65 and 85 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes at the time of her disappearance. She would have celebrated her 31st birthday on Sept. 28 this year.

By the next day, the Custer County Sheriff's Office says multiple deputies, the Search and Rescue team, the Challis Volunteer Fire Department, FBI agents, ISP, Idaho Bureau of Investigation, Idaho Fish and Game, 300 individuals and tracking dogs were all searching for Stephanie.

Officials say David Collins, creator of the "Kevin Collins Foundation for Missing Children" and father of Kevin Collins, a 10-year-old that went missing in 1984, joined the search for Stephanie.

In 1993, the Kevin Collins Foundation reported 204 cases of missing children--16 were found alive and 19 were deceased. Eventually, the foundation ended because of a lack of funding.

The Child Connection, Inc. continued the search for Stephanie in 1994 and 1997 with no luck.

Officials say Stephanie's parents died from natural causes in 1997 and in 2012, both without knowing what happened to their daughter.

The Custer County Sheriff's Office says they have continued to work on Stephanie's case. They have contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2010 and also have reached out to Project Alert.

Project Alert is a group of retired law enforcement officials trained by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that specialize in long-term missing children cases.

The Custer County Sheriff's Office says this is still an ongoing investigation. If anyone has any information, please contact them at (208) 879-2232. There is also a tip line that can be reached by calling (208) 879-5372.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children disclosed that 800,000 children are reported missing each year in the U.S., making 2,000 reports a day. Around 115 reports claim the child was taken by an unknown person. The number for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is 1-800-843-5678 and can be tipped anonymously.
