Legends of Puratasi
Saturday is the Lord’s favourite day, so on every Purattasi Saturday, people observe a stringent fast and offer him special prayers and rituals. Lord Venkateshwara descended to earth to rescue his devotees from the difficulties of the Kaliyuga. According to the Tirumala Sthala Purana, when Sage Brigu insulted Maha Vishnu in Vaikuntam, Goddess Lakshmi became enraged and descended to the earth to perform penance. The lord assumed the form of Venkateshwara (Lord Tirupati, the supreme deity of wealth) and went in search of his consort, Padmavati, who was born into the family of Akasha Rajan. He wed her in an elaborate ceremony and made her his divine spouse. Those who communicate with the Lord are bestowed with riches, health, pleasures, and spiritual enlightenment.
