WASHINGTON (7News) — Following an assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump during a political rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. plans to increase police presence across the city.
According to the department, there are no known active threats to the city.
Law enforcement in the District said they will continue to monitor the events that occurred at Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious threats to the police.

On Saturday, shots rang out at a political rally held by former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump said he was shot in the ear during an assassination attempt at the rally. The shooter and a rally attendee are both dead as a result of the incident, the Associated Press reports.
Trump posted on Truth Social Saturday evening to thank law enforcement, offer his condolences to the family of the deceased eventgoer and to confirm he was hit by a bullet.
The man who tried to assassinate the former president was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

It remains unclear why Crooks fired shots at Trump as the assassination attempt is being investigated.
